In this article, we will show you how to install and use Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 with NY Avatar Sound Library on your computer. You will need the following:
A valid serial number for Superior Drummer 2.0
The Toontrack Product Manager application
An internet connection
Enough disk space to download and install the software and the library (about 20 GB)
Follow these steps to get started:
Download the Product Manager application from your Toontrack.com account and install it on your computer.
Open the Product Manager and log in with your Toontrack.com credentials.
Register your serial number for Superior Drummer 2.0 by clicking the register product button and entering your serial number. If you bought Superior Drummer 2.0 directly from Toontrack.com, it should be automatically registered to your account.
Find Superior Drummer 2.0 in your list of products and click the red download button. The Product Manager will guide you through the steps of downloading, installing, authorizing and updating your Superior Drummer 2 software.
Install the Avatar S2.0 Core library by finding it directly below Superior Drummer 2 in the Product Manager and clicking the download button. This download will take longer to complete as the library is nearly 19 GB. Once the download is complete, click the install button to install the library.
Launch Superior Drummer 2 as a standalone application or as a plugin in your DAW of choice.
Select the NY Avatar library from the Library Selection menu on the top left corner of the interface.
Choose a preset from the Preset menu on the top right corner of the interface or customize your own kit by dragging and dropping drums and cymbals from the Drums tab.
Adjust the levels, panning, effects and other parameters of each drum channel from the Mixer tab.

Using the Grooves tab
The Grooves tab is where you can find thousands of MIDI files that are compatible with Superior Drummer 2.0 and NY Avatar Sound Library. These MIDI files are organized by genre, style, tempo and time signature. You can preview them by clicking on them or drag them to your DAW or the built-in song track to create your drum tracks.
To access the Grooves tab, click on the Grooves button on the top toolbar of the interface. You will see a browser window with different folders and subfolders. You can expand or collapse them by clicking on the arrows next to them. You can also use the search box to find grooves by keywords or use the filters to narrow down your results by genre, style, tempo and time signature.
To preview a groove, simply click on it once. You will hear it played back with your current kit and settings. To stop the playback, click on it again or click on the Stop button on the bottom toolbar. To adjust the playback volume, use the slider next to the Stop button.
To drag a groove to your DAW or the built-in song track, click and hold on it and drag it to your desired destination. You can drag multiple grooves at once by holding down the Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) key while clicking on them. You can also drag a folder or a subfolder to import all the grooves inside it.
To edit a groove, double-click on it or right-click on it and select Edit from the menu. This will open the Groove Editor window where you can modify the notes, velocity, timing and other parameters of each drum hit. You can also use the Quantize, Humanize and Swing features to adjust the groove's feel and groove.
Using the Edit Play Style feature
The Edit Play Style feature is a powerful tool that lets you change the dynamics, complexity and timing of any groove in real time. You can use it to create variations, fills, breaks and transitions for your drum tracks.
To access the Edit Play Style feature, click on the Edit Play Style button on the top toolbar of the interface. You will see a window with different sliders and buttons that control different aspects of the groove's performance.
The Power Hand slider lets you change which hand is playing the main rhythm on the hi-hat, ride or crash cymbal. You can move it left or right to switch between different cymbals or use the buttons below it to select a specific cymbal.
The Amount slider lets you change how busy or sparse the groove is. You can move it left or right to add or remove drum hits from different parts of the kit or use the buttons below it to select a specific part.
The Velocity slider lets you change how hard or soft the groove is played. You can move it left or right to increase or decrease the velocity of all drum hits or use the buttons below it to select a specific part.
The Opening slider lets you change how open or closed the hi-hat is. You can move it left or right to adjust the degree of opening or use the buttons below it to select a specific opening.
The Tightness slider lets you change how tight or loose the timing of the groove is. You can move it left or right to add or remove human feel from all drum hits or use the buttons below it to select a specific part.
